The obligatory origin-story... as it were...
The youngest of four children (or five depending on who you ask), much younger at that, Signy has been known to claim she has no siblings but many parents. She might also claim that being a five year old in a house full of teenagers would warp anyone. However, one of those ‘parents’ did feel the need to teach her to read at a young age. That led to a vast love affair with any book she could get her hands on and the discovery of her best friends in those characters. She spent hours reading, always picturing herself right alongside those characters as they explored places she could only dream of as a small town Midwest girl.
Once she started school, having a jump start on the reading did have a side effect. She was bored in most of her classes. That was when the writing started. Pencil in hand, she got very good at looking like she was taking notes while actually having conversations on paper with her favorite story characters. That skill would continue to develop through high school, college, and even into her forays to the corporate world.
As a supposed adult, Signy never thought she could succeed as a writer so tried other career paths. Changing not just jobs but entire industries every couple of years, she found herself repeatedly returning to the writing as the constant in her life. Then the steps towards bringing those stories into the light began with some new friends.
First the WebYeti kicked his way in… that’s yet another story. But he was the first to egg her on towards the published life. Then he brought in D, organizer extraordinaire and first beta reader. Between them the pressure was soon on and feedback was coming in.
Next was an initial toe-dipping into the phenomenon known as NaNoWriMo. On her first attempt to 50,000 words in 30 days Signy did succeed, barely, and sadly that story did not get a The End on it at the time. Instead it was added to the list of future completions. But what did come out of it was a mist of new confidence and several new contacts. Over the following year she quietly lurked in the digital world following these oddly welcoming fellow writers via their social networking sites. Little did they know what they would be in for the following November.
The next NaNoWriMo hit with a vengeance. Those fellow writers, minding their own business, were soon to experience true Signy rather than her day-to-day persona from the year before. A whole new cast of characters spun her life around. This time not only did she succeed but she got to write The End.
Which brings us to the here and now. With the assistance of the WebYeti, this site is up and soon to be filled with the thoughts of the one known as Signy Kuiper. Welcome and enjoy.
