Why am I publishing now rather than 30 years ago?
Quite simply the people I'm with now rather than then. Having people who believe in you, the power of your creativity, and encouraging more of it.
I come from a time & place where that wasn’t the case. A creative life was nonconformist & unsustainable. How could you support a family writing books? I can’t tell you how many times I was told to get my head out of the clouds & find a real job/career… as a teenager.
Sometimes I wonder what my parents would think of me now. Horrified I don’t have a steady paycheck but maybe a little proud?
